Welcome to Recovery Risk, a boutique environmental firm that specializes in loss mitigation for investors, lenders, and communities facing climate change and environmental risks.

Marty Walters is principal consultant for Recovery Risk. She’s spent decades responding to hazardous materials and weather disasters while working as an environmental risk manager for multinational corporations and financial institutions.

Marty is field tested across the Pacific Rim in disaster preparation and response through hurricanes, wildfires, earthquakes, and floods. She organized GE Japan’s response to the triple disaster in Fukushima, and she implemented a range of specialized skills and good governance that are critical during a long and complicated recovery period. In her home region in Northern California, she has witnessed devastating loss of life and property from wildfire, and she serves her community as chair of the Plumas County Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD).

With her unique skillset of hazardous materials and emergency response experience, Marty is a leading expert in hazards of urban conflagrations and the management of debris, ash, and contaminated soils from wildfire, assisting communities in navigating the complex world of debris management under state and federal cost sharing programs. Her background in environmental, property condition, and construction due diligence informs her work to advise property owners on how to make their buildings and properties more resilient to wildfire, flood, and other climate and weather risks.

Marty holds certifications in wildfire mitigation, incident command, and as an environmental professional, and she created the environmental risk manager certificate program for the Environmental Bankers Association. In teaching this challenging and comprehensive program, Marty’s students comment that her depth and breadth of experience in finance and environment
